It is imperative that we do everything possible to ensure the continuity of the service so that people can travel when necessary and that food and other goods can be delivered to meet local needs.”

New GM Appointed

1/7/2021

NEW GENERAL MANAGER APPOINTED TO LABRADOR MARINE INC.

(Happy Valley-Goose Bay) – Peter Woodward, President and CEO of Labrador Marine Inc. (LMI) today announced the appointment of Captain Austin Daley as General Manager of LMI. In that role, Captain Daley will oversee all operations of LMI, which includes the Strait of Belle Isle ferry service and the Labrador coastal service.

“Captain Daley leads by example,” says Woodward. “He started with our company in 2007 and moved up to become captain of the Astron in 2010. He displayed exceptional leadership skills in that role and he was instrumental in overseeing the complex task of converting the Kamutik W and Qajaq W for service in Newfoundland and Labrador.”

Captain Daley was master of the Kamutik W in its first year of service before taking on the role of Marine Superintendent of LMI in 2020. His connection with the sea stretches over several generations. He grew up in a fishing family in St. Joseph’s, St. Mary’s Bay.

“Austin is a young man who’s progressed quickly in the marine field,” says Woodward. “That speaks to his dedication and initiative. He obtained his various marine certificates during winters after his fishing season ended. He earned his Master Mariner designation in 2010. Captain Daley is proud of his marine heritage and we are fortunate to have a person of his stature take on this role with LMI. We wish him every success.”
